Coolant Reclaim
Coolant to be recycled is generated from preventative maintenance (PM) on CNC machines, metal chips hopper that is dumped in roll-off at the Chip Bay, and the reclaim system that separates oil and coolant from metal chips.
Procedure
When a tote is catching used coolant, it must have a “DIRTY COOLANT” label on it.
When the tote is full it can be drained into the reclaim system or stored beside the reclaim while it waits to be drained.
When putting reclaimed coolant into a tote, it should be labeled as “RECYCLED COOLANT”
Waste Oil that is generated from the reclaimer must be labeled “USED OIL” and treated as such.
Container and Labeling Requirements
Containers must be securely closed unless adding or removing materials.
During movement of the material, containers must be securely closed or sealed at all times. If a tote is being used, the ball valve must be securely closed.
Containers and handling equipment must be in good condition and be handled in a manner that will not damage the integrity of the container upon transporting.
When storing containers, they must be stored in a manner to prevent and contain potential spills, particularly spills that could enter a drain and/ or the creek.
Containers shall be placed so there is adequate aisle space between the containers to allow the unobstructed movement of personnel, fire protection equipment, and decontamination equipment into any area of TU in the event of an emergency.
Ensure totes are correctly and legibly labeled.
